WHAT is a "Server Search Party" ?
(4-4-2000)

A [TiC] Clan
"Server Search Party" is when we
get a bunch of volunteers together and jump
on Half-Life (or other game) servers looking
and asking any "Server Administrator"
to host a server for our Clan. See Event Calendar for times and dates. EVERYONE (Screened
Applicants, Guests, and Members) should show
up for Server Search Parties. Yes, I'm
talking to you!! Get your butt up and help
your Clan. Thanks. Do you want to be a part
of the [TiC] Clan? HELPing at Server Search
Parties is a good way to EARN your way into
the [TiC] Clan.
THIS IS
HOW A SERVER SEARCH PARTY WORKS:
1. All the
volunteers meet at the scheduled time on the
scheduled [TiC] Clan Roger Wilco channel.
2. Everyone starts up Half-Life (or other
game) and "UPDATES" their "SERVER
LIST".
3. Everyone sorts their SERVER LIST by PING
and tells everyone over the RW channel.
4. Each volunteer jumps on the servers that
they have the fastest pings to. Just make
sure that the Server's name does not already
have a [CLAN-TAG] in its name.
5. To keep the guys at the Server Search
Party from double checking the same server (and
to make sure that they are actually LOOKING
and not playing), have each person say the
Server's name before they join it over the RW
channel, and their results once they have
looked.
6. When the volunteer first "LOADS"
on to the Half-Life game server, there is a
SCREEN with YELLOW WRITING. SOMETIMES there
will be CONTACT INFORMATION for the person or
people that own/host that server.
COPY down ANY info you find (email address,
ICQ number, web page address, etc) and copy
down the server's IP# number and port and
server name.
7. Then, actually get into the game on that
Half-Life server and then type in a message
asking:
"Is
the Server Administrator here?"
(several times.)
-If- he is
really there (sometimes KIDS will lie
about being the ServerAdmin), start to
tell him that you are with the TiC clan
and would like him to host a server for
us. Be clear to say "We would like
to leave the server OPEN to the public"
if that is what he/she wants. We simply
want him to put "[TiC]Clan" in
the server's name and to get rcon once he
trusts us. The server's rcon password is
the prize we are after.
((( Later, we could ask him to add "www.ticclan.com" to the message of the day
on the server MOTD.txt. EVEN later, if
and when he is comfortable with us, he
could give us rcon, BUT we will ask him
that LATER. The first step is always
simply to get our name on the server and
to get his contact info.)))
-If- he sounds interested, get ANY
contact info that you possible can (email,
icq, etc), but please don't harrass/bug
him though .
8. -IF- the
Server Admin was NOT on the server, but you
did get some contact info, simply pass ANY
info you have to the "Event Leader"
for that 'Server Search Party'. The Event
Leader will give you credit for how many
"leads" you find. The Event Leader
will foward the list of leads with the names
of who found which leads to ticclan@bigfoot.com . A nice clean request letter will
be sent out via Email/ICQ/etc to the Server
Admin with a asking him/her to host his/her/their
server for our Clan.
9. If one of your "leads" pans out,
you get RCON too! Help your Clan to thrive
and grow, help out with Server Search Parties.
HOW do I
help ?
Post a message
on the [TiC] Clan Forums. YOU can HELP or you can even help
CO-HOST or Host an Event.
Standard
Server Search Party LETTER:
You can use
this pre-written letter or write your own
letter to send out to potential leads that
might host a server for us. Use these to
follow any leads you stumble upon.
Hello "Server
Administrator or INSERT HOST's NAME",
would you consider running a server
for the [TiC] Clan, please? We are a
global friendly mature adults only
Clan made up of almost 50 friendly
Adult Members. If you want to help
us, we would simply ask that you put
the words "[TiC]Clan" in
the server's name somewhere. We would
also want the server to stay OPEN to
the public, if possible.
Thank you .
